READ · Superfandom How Our Obsessions Are Changing What We Buy and Who We Are Fandom isn't a noun it's a verb Fans create; they engage; they discuss From comics to clothing boundaries between fans and creators are blurring and in this new fandom based economy it's clear consumers may buy a product but it is fans who can make or break itAn essential guide to the fan fuelled future Superfandom explores the explosion of fandom and its transformative impact on culture and business In chapters centred on illuminating case studie. I was 34 through this and very close to throwing it out a window before I finally put my finger on why it was frustrating me so deeply it has nothing to do with fandom At all Which is not their fault it s a misunderstanding based on an assumption I made about the book based on the title So OK this book has fandom in the title but it is NOT ABOUT FANDOMS it is about SUPERFANS Once I realized the error in my thinking the book made sense There are sections on Surge soda Cards Against Humanity Berkshire Hathaway Disney Clubs WWE etc The book looks at fans from a brand down perspective describing the topic and some activities that people who likes those brands are involved in The book does touch on works generally associated with fandoms such as Twilight and Harry Potter and Disney but the focus remains on the brands themselves the authors steer well clear of any discussion about what it means for people to be part of those fandoms Which is fine and not a complaint But there is no discernible thread or through line to the book it s just a collection of description of things that people are or have been fans of throughout history It s unclear why these brandstopics were chosen or why certain ones are chosen to be mentioned in chapters alongside each other or to what end There s no thesis here it s just Here are some things some people enjoy If that sounds interesting to you go for itIt s actually not even about superfans there are no stories in this book describing people going above and beyond in pursuit of their passions A better title for this book might be Some Examples of Things People Like Looking Good Dead has nothing to do with fandom At all Which is not their fault it s a misunderstanding based on an assumption I made about the book based on the title So OK this book On the Banks of Lethe has fandom in the title but it is NOT ABOUT FANDOMS it is about SUPERFANS Once I realized the error in my thinking the book made sense There are sections on Surge soda Cards Against Humanity Berkshire Hathaway Disney Clubs WWE etc The book looks at fans from a brand down perspective describing the topic and some activities that people who likes those brands are involved in The book does touch on works generally associated with fandoms such as Twilight and Harry Potter and Disney but the focus remains on the brands themselves the authors steer well clear of any discussion about what it means for people to be part of those fandoms Which is fine and not a complaint But there is no discernible thread or through line to the book it s just a collection of description of things that people are or The Plot Whisperer have been fans of throughout Echo Falls (Echo Falls, #1) history It s unclear why these brandstopics were chosen or why certain ones are chosen to be mentioned in chapters alongside each other or to what end There s no thesis Honor here it s just Here are some things some people enjoy If that sounds interesting to you go for itIt s actually not even about superfans there are no stories in this book describing people going above and beyond in pursuit of their passions A better title for this book might be Some Examples of Things People Like
